Electric skateboards are fun to ride and are a great option for short commutes. However, they are often too bulky (because of the batteries and motors inside) and too heavy to push when they run out of juice. Taking a different approach, California’s Inboard Sports came up with The Monolith Electric Skateboard ($1.200).
The first of its kind to feature motors inside its wheels, this clever deck offers the advantages of an electric rideable, while keeping the look and the glide-feel of a traditional skateboard. Light and aerodynamic, the Monolith can easily be push-driven with your legs when the battery dies, and it also accommodates swappable battery packs. Each battery will carry you 10 miles at 24mph, with a full charge taking just 90 minutes. The Monolith Electric Skateboard is wirelessly controlled by a RFLX Remote that includes a throttle, a kill switch, and a tail of silicone to keep it attached to the users’ hand. Other highlights include an Electronic Regenerative Breaking System, front and tail lights, and an embedded USB port for charging your phone or other devices.
