“Every year, The Boss Hog reimagines what Rye can be. For its thirteenth chapter, inspiration comes from a land we’ve never explored before: Egypt,” reads the marketing page. Additionally, the Boss Hog XIII: The Golden Pharaoh is a single-barrel affair that’s bottled at cask strength and is the brand’s “world’s first cask finish” release.
As the overview tells us, the straight rye whiskey was matured in American oak barrels. Next is the additional aging in casks seasoned with tiger nut and Egyptian black honey. These extra steps deliver a spirit with aromas of toasted almond, cinnamon, pastry, and brown sugar. Meanwhile, you get to enjoy notes of black pepper, baking spice, honey, and molasses.
Each sip then leaves your mouth with essences of toasted almond and oatmeal.
