Tom Sachs and Helinox teamed up to launch the J.Chair, a scaled-up tribute to Helinox’s iconic design principles, which emphasizes on lightness and comfort. It’s a collaborative product that pays homage to DAC Poles and Helinox founder Jake Lah.
It’s a versatile seating solution designed to easily blend into both indoor and outdoor environments. It features experimental graphics in Tom Sachs’ signature style, a distinctive blend of art, design, and utilitarianism. The chair features laser-engraved details that enhance its visual depth.
The experimental graphics include hand-drawn text reminiscent of the NASA logo, typographic product specs, structural diagrams, and measurements. Aside from its aesthetic appeal, the J.Chair offers lightweight strength and durability. It’s crafted with high-quality materials, with a frame constructed from raw DAC aluminum bead-blasted for a refined finish.
Meanwhile, natural rubber Vibram ball feet prevent slipping and help keep the legs from sinking into loose sand. The seat itself comes from a durable polyester-nylon X-Pac blend, with its tensioned structure providing support as it cradles the body. This chair offers a generous seating surface to make it easy to get in and get out.
The J.Chair is a limited-edition and made-to-order product that seamlessly balances art and technology. It retains Helinox’s engineering excellence while integrating Tom Sachs’ distinctive visual language. Its lightweight and foldable structure makes it ideal for both outdoor use and interior design. It offers compact storage with a spacious and stable seat that can support a max weight of 160 kg at an assembled weight of just 1.14 kg.
