With the Ballistic Nylon Duffel Backpack Hybrid, Filson has made what’s perhaps one of the bags in the world, ever. And that’s not hyperbole. The outdoor brand is famous for making products from unique fabrics like heavyweight Tin Cloth. Its Ballistic Nylon Duffel Backpack Hybrid jettisons this material in favor of 600 denier all-weather tear-resistant nylon.

If you’re not knowledgeable on bags, you probably don’t know how big a deal that is. To put things in perspective, this fabric was originally developed by DuPont as a material for flak jackets. Yes. Which is to say the Duffle Pack is no match for any wear and tear than usually comes about from being carelessly slung around when you’re on commute.

That said, the bag remains lightweight all things considered. Rugged, technically superior to most other options, and complete with reinforced zips. Filson isn’t exactly a brand known to disappoint, but it’s outdone itself with the Ballistic Nylon Duffel. There’s more, though. Another highlight comes in its ability to change between three different bag styles depending on what you need it for at a given occasion.

Two rucksack straps hide in the base, which means when you don’t need them, you can tuck them away if you don’t want the extra eyesore. Then you can just carry it around like any other duffle bag with one hand and by the shoulder straps. It also only takes a few seconds to deploy the backpack straps and sling it on either shoulder. You’ll even find a full-length padded laptop pocket that fits laptops up to 15 inches. There are also two exterior side pockets and one interior zippered pocket for extra storage, as well.
