With almost every other carmaker going all-electric it’s getting harder to track some of the more interesting models. Tesla is clearly ahead of the pack, but it’s likely that another brand will eventually catch up. A lot of the ones we’re seeing at car shows are still in the concept stage or working prototypes. Thus, when a production-ready upstart surfaces, we can’t help but check how it stacks up against the competition. Let’s go for a ride of the Polestar 2 and learn about what it has to offer.

Getting down to business, this all-electric crossover is all about performance. In order to do that, the Polestar 2 will be drawing power from a 78 kWh battery for the standard model. The Tesla Model 3, on the other hand, starts off with 50 kWh unit instead. However, buyers can upgrade to higher capacities for a fee. Meanwhile, the crossover is equipped with an electric rear axle drive (ERAD) and electric front axle ride (EFAD). The electric drivetrain generates about 408 horsepower and around 487 lb-ft of torque.

The Polestar 2 is mounting its battery under the floor, thereby giving it a low center of gravity to boost handling. Meanwhile, this configuration coupled with the regenerative braking system manages to stretch its range up to 275 miles. Additionally, it can go from zero to 62 miles per hour in less than five seconds. Cutting-edge flexibility with its phone-as-key technology allows the owner to share access to the vehicle with friends or family members. So far, things are looking good for this EV.
