With the thickness of a nickel (just 2mm), the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept is the world’s thinnest self-winding watch. Its unconventional design uses a 41mm-wide case that doubles as the foundation for the movement.

The record-breaking timepiece ditches the usual balance wheel bridge found in traditional watches, while its mainspring barrel at 6:00 has no cover and drum, and the crown stem is a more compact pinion system. To prevent damage to the movement from accidental impact, the Ultimate Concept’s case is made of an innovative, highly rigid cobalt-based alloy.

Otherwise, the watch features a power reserve of 44 hours and water-resistance to 30m, and comes strapped to a 1.1mm thick alligator leather strap reinforced with Kevlar and fitted with a slim pin buckle.
