One of the winners of the prestigious Architizer A+ Awards for 2017 was the French architectural firm Atelier du Pont for their idyllic Holiday Poolside Cabin. – a small structure placed on a tree-covered slope leading down to Arcachon Bay at Cap Ferret, France.
Well-hidden behind strawberry trees, pine trees, and yucca, the cabin was specifically designed to not only blend into the tree-studded environment but to minimize the impact a private dwelling might otherwise have on the existing flora. The three separated structures comprising the cabin provide needed privacy while the large glass panes and unusual angles of the roofs & walls provide an aesthetically pleasing form. The oddly placed openings and wide expanses of the windows allow for a delightful inclusion of the external spaces into the look of the interior.
The facade is predominantly wood to help match the texture of the surrounding trees while the long outdoor pool hints at the salt water expanses of the Bay before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. For beauty, comfort, and originality, it’s clear why this holiday cabin was chosen as the best.
