Sustainably navigating the world’s waters is gradually becoming one of the more crucial selling points of existing models and concepts. Among the possible ways to make this possible are hydrogen fuel cells, biofuels, hybrid diesel-electric, battery-electric, and renewable energy sources. Until a groundbreaking alternative becomes available, upcoming models such as the Ipharra resort to a tested and proven way to get around.
As shipyards scale up, the power requirements to run the hotel load and propulsion systems also go up. For this new twin-hull offering, Sunreef outfits the vessel with a massive carbon sailing rig. According to the press release, with favorable winds between 15 and 20 knots, it can reach cruising speeds of up to 10 knots.
Based on the 100 Eco series, Ipharra made her debut at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show. The superyacht is for a returning client. One who is probably more than happy to show it off at such a prestigious event. Furthermore, it “represents a new milestone in sustainable luxury sailing, combining advanced electric propulsion, solar technology, generous living spaces, and exceptional comfort at sea.”
What’s awesome about this sailing catamaran is the almost imperceptible photovoltaic panels that clad its exterior. By Sunreef’s account, about 2,691 square feet of the ship’s hull and superstructure are covered by its in-house Solar Skin. On a sunny day, we’re looking at an optimal 49 kWp generated.
Energy is stored in a 770 kWh battery bank, which can likewise power the 360 kW electric engines. In addition to its eco-friendly credentials, the Ipharra is no slouch when it comes to lavish appointments. Among the high-end amenities the owner and guests can enjoy are a spacious main saloon, plush sofas, a coffee bar, a retractable projector screen, and so much more.
