In late 2024, the automotive industry was caught by surprise when Jaguar unveiled a major brand revamp. The big unveiling subsequently generated mixed reactions, and most of them were negative. It’s too early to call it, because the Type 01 just made its official debut. So far, it remains true to the preview we got years ago.
As controversial as the rework was perceived, maybe it was all part of the plan. Given the coverage it got at the time, we can safely say the publicity was phenomenal. The marque is promoting an all-electric future, and this EV is paving the way for its green motoring campaign. Sleek is an understatement, because everything appears to flow seamlessly.a
Despite our misgivings back then, the Type 01 might potentially appeal to a certain crowd. The clean and minimalist profile of its exterior oozes elegance from any angle. Moreover, the interior likewise reflects a similar motif with zero clutter. It feels like there is a thoughtful approach to how each element of the design never clashes with the others.
Elsewhere, performance comes from an 850V triple-motor setup: a single 349-horsepower unit on the front axle, and two 416-horsepower units for the rear. Overall, the zero-emission grand tourer can generate 1,016 horsepower and 1,007 lb-ft of torque. Supplying energy is a 118 kWh battery promising a range of around 450 miles (WLTP) on a single charge.
Expect the Type 01 to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 mph (electronically limited). Enjoy smooth rides courtesy of the four-corner air suspension, adjustable air springs, and twin-valve active dampers. All-wheel steering also makes it easy to maneuver in challenging situations.
