Have you tried The Macallan’s Harmony Collection? These are a series of whiskies curated around a distinct theme. Each embodies the characteristics of its ingredients and the casks in which the spirits were finished. We’ve featured a few inspired by nature, tea, cacao, and so much more. It seems this venture is drawing to a close with an exciting pair of expressions inspired by coconut.
According to the press release, the Harmony Collection bottles are “marking the final chapter in a series that explores the brand’s deep-rooted connection to the natural world through creativity, craftsmanship and innovation.” Both are single malt scotches incorporating a popular tropical fruit. We have the Inspired by Fresh Coconut and Inspired by Toasted Coconut.
Starting with the former, The Macallan is bottling this at 46.3% ABV (92 proof). Subsequently, it is easy to indentify from the other by pink accents against a black backdrop for the labeling. The liquid is king coconut in hue. It exudes essences of zesty lime, nutmeg cinnamon, almond, tropical mango, papaya, orange, lemon, dried tropical fruits, coconut milk, vanilla sponge, icing sugar, and fresh coconut.
The next expression in this Harmony Collection is Panama Tall Coconut in color. Meanwhile, it’s slightly lower at about 43.3% (86 proof), with white text on black for the labels. Then, for the tasting notes, you get crème caramel, shea butter, vanilla bean, pink grapefruit, sweet cardamom, meringue, lime marmalade, charred pineapple, coconut truffle, frangipane, and toasted coconut.
“With this concluding release in The Harmony Collection, we have carefully guided coconut notes to the forefront of the whisky through precise cask selection and maturation,” states The Macallan master whisky maker Kirsteen Campbell.
