Sony has just taken action camera photography to a new level with their latest RX camera, the RXO ($1,000). Made to shoot video as easily as still photos, this light-weight, 3.9 oz. device can also be incorporated into a multi-camera array via Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile app that can control up to five units at a time.
The weather-sealed body contains a 1 inch 15.3MP Exmor CMOS image sensor with a wide angle 24mm f4 Zeiss TesserT lens and a Bionz X image processor. It is capable of shooting up to 16 frames per second, capture RAW and JPEG format images, and do up to 1,000 fps slow motion photography.
The rugged body is just 2.3″ x 1.6″ x 1.1″ (59 x 40.5 x 29.8 mm) and can withstand drops of as much as 6.5′ (2 m) with crushproof capabilities up to 440 lbf (200 kgf) pressure. Alone it can withstand water up to 33′ (10 m) and Sony is currently developing a special underwater case that allows depths of 328′ (100 m).
