Wireless device charging isn’t new but it does come with such disadvantages as requiring contact with a pad, usually charging only one device at a time and that, while charging, your gadget can’t really be used. Those problems may soon be a thing of the past thanks to the Pi Charger.

The Pi Charger is shaped like a truncated cone and uses resonant induction and a unique algorithm to create the beam-forming magnetic charging field (safe for humans and other creatures) around the detected devices. The charger can reach up to 12″ and it creates 20 watts that can power “up to four phones at full speed, or even more devices at reduced speed.” The added range means you can keep using the device, be it phone or tablet, while it charges. Although the Pi Charger is not ready for production yet, it is expected to arrive sometime in 2018 and will run under $200.
