Stretched out along the hillside of a secluded valley at the foot of the Moganshan Mountain is the Naked Stables Resort ($300/night). This idyllic 121-room resort is the first in China to be awarded a LEED Platinum Certification, meaning this lavish getaway is also resource efficient.
The resort comprises a combination of tree top villas and ground-level earth huts built using stone masonry, mud walls, and reclaimed timber in the frames. To enjoy the view of the surrounding bamboo forest, each unit is extensively glazed and each has its own private balcony or porch.
There are three restaurants in the compound that feature a variety of cuisines along with items harvested locally. The horse stable that provides the name of the resort offers horseback riding and there are Land Rovers available to trek through the longest all-terrain track in China. They also offer such varied activities as yoga, biking, hiking, fishing, and golf, or you can relax at the spa.
