Whether you are a soldier or a survivalist, you need a strong, dependable knife. In the USA there is the KaBar – in England they have the KNF061, better known as the British Ministry of Defense-endorsed M.O.D. Survival Knife ($100).
Made by England’s Sheffield Knives, the M.O.D. is a fixed-blade, drop-point design with a total length of 12″. The 7″ blade is made of high-carbon steel, 4mm wide, and given a corrosion-resistant phosphate coating. It is attached to the natural Bubinga wood handle by three rust-proof copper rivets.
This survival knife has many more uses than just fighting. While it was designed for the military, the hefty blade can be used for slicing, carving, or chopping and can retain its edge through heavy use. It comes with a brown leather sheath that has been both stitched and riveted for extra strength and will fit up to a 4″ belt. The wooden handle has been stamped with the military contract number and its NATO identification number – sign of authenticity of a serious knife. [via]
