Sony has just announced the release of a new camera specifically designed for professional photographers and photojournalists. The Sony A9 ($4,500) has a unique 35mm full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor capable of processing data twice as fast as their fastest previous model.
The Sony A9 also has a Quad-VGA OLED Tru-Finder viewfinder utilizing about 3,686k dots and a brightness level very close to the actual target brightness. Sony has also developed a new battery capable of over twice the life of previous offerings.
The processor is said to calculate auto-exposure and autofocus up to 60 times per second and cover nearly 93% of the screen with auto-focus points. One big draw of the A9 is the continuous shooting capabilities of up to 20 frames per second taking 241 RAW or 362 Jpeg images. Its video capabilities extend to 3840 x 2160 4K output for extremely clear 4K video output. Other features that will soon place the Sony A9 as a top professional camera are its 5-axis in-body stabilization, dual SD card slots, an ethernet port, and it is blackout-free up to 20 fps.
