Never did a McLaren disappoint in terms of fun, innovative spirit and overall awesomeness, but the one thing that it always lacked was the approachable, every day commuter-friendly character. With the introduction of the new 2017 McLaren 570GT, that gap has finally been filled.
We continue to love all the other performance-oriented beasts from the British automaker, but we are also very thrilled to welcome the new model into this world. Building on the 570S model, the new 570GT is just as powerful as its muse (562 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque), only quieter and with more luggage space.
The twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 unit has remained untouched, but the exhaust and suspensions were both toned down a notch. The squeal-prone carbon-ceramic brakes have also been swapped with less noisy steel stoppers, and the original tires were ditched in favor of a set of Pirellis that manage to reduce cabin noise by a few decibels.
And because this is now a more sensible supercar, you can count on 12.3 cubic feet of cargo space. Access to your luggage is also much easier now that the rear hatch no longer opens upward but swings open. All these modifications will cost you $14,000 more than a standard 570S, but that’s arguably a fair price to pay for a vehicle that you can actually comfortably drive every single day.
