In the 50 years since Bowers & Wilkins was founded, they have striven for perfection in audio reproduction. To this end John Bowers developed the Steyning Research Establishment of West Sussex, England, to help them create the best possible sound equipment. Now they have released the P9 Signature ($900), their largest over the ear mobile headphone, to prove they have it right.

On the outside, the P9 Signature is luxurious. The headband and ear cups are covered in fine Italian Saffiano leather. The paired carry case is the durable and lovely Italian made high-tech material “dressed in Alcantara.”

On the inside, the acoustic ear cabinets use bits designed for optimal rendering and are angled to direct the sound straight into the ear. The cans also feature nylon damped cones, CCAW coil with external long-pole magnets, dual cavity ear and airleak cushions, and come with a detachable cable. They input three and four pole 3.5mm stereo jacks, while the frequency range is 2Hz to 30Hz with 22 ohm impedance and a distortion rate of less that 0.2%, which is pretty impressive.
