As off road bicycles go the Rungu Electric Juggernaut ($5,300) looks like some mutant species that should have been put out of its misery at birth. However, if you are traveling through sand, snow, or other shifting surfaces you will come to love this huge three-tired beast.
Built around a frame composed of T6 aluminum, this electric bike is powered by a throttle controlled, high-torque, Stryker 2kW three phase hub motor. The three, 26″ x 4.8″ tires are specially designed to grib sand or snow alike and provide an easy 6″ clearance over obstacles. Providing up to 2,100 Watts of power the motor is electronically limited to 20 mph when opened up. The battery life gives about a 20 mile range per full charge. All three wheels are equipped with disc brakes and the natural stability of the three point design helps assure your balance on the trail.
Rest assured, the Rungu Juggernaut is not cheap. The non-motorized version starts at just over $3,000. But if you prefer the personal quiet offered by an electric motor over the roar of a gas-powered ATV, this may be the perfect vehicle to wander into those otherwise inaccessible places that make off-road biking the joy it is.
