Budapest-based workshop Altar Furniture makes these unique Cassette Coffee Tables ($2,150) that should struck a nostalgic chord among those who grew up in the fun times of the 80’s & 90’s. The tables are 1:10 scale copies of classic tapes, carefully detailed to look exactly like the real deal.
Built by hand out of medium-density fibreboard (a wood product denser than plywood) with sandblasted & powdercoated iron legs, the furniture is finished with German automotive grade paints, and decorated with vinyl decals. Each piece contains 394 ft (120 meters) of satin, for that real tape feeling, “and yes, the wheels turn in the table.” Available as conversion kits (same cassette can be used as a coffee table, dining table & desk) and in different designs, including the very first tape released by Philips in 1964.
