For a few thousand dollars more than the price of a tiny home, fancy photographers can get their hands on a super-camera that promises to deliver unmatched image quality. It carries a name to match the bill: the Phase One A-series IQ3 100MP Camera System ($56,000).
Based on the ALPA 12TC camera body and equipped with a 35mm Rodenstock Alpar lens, the IQ3 embraces the quality of good old analog technology and mates it with digital integration. The 1,900 g (67 oz.) system features a full-frame medium format sensor 2.5 times larger than those found in high-end DSLRs, as well as an ISO range of 50 to 12,800, 15 F-stops of dynamic range, full 16-bit color, and exposure times that range from 1/500 sec to 60 minutes. Factory configured in-camera lens calibrations spare photographers the need to create and apply colorcast correction profiles; all they have to do is attach the lens and start taking photos.
Other details on the A-series IQ3 include a rosewood hand grip, a 3.2-inch touchscreen with OneTouch user interface, Live View control via iPhone (smart device holder included), and optional lenses including an ultra-wide 23-mm, and a 70-mm ALPA HR Alpagon.
