A high-quality replica of the first American race car that beat Ferrari, finishing in the top three positions in the brutal Le Mans 24 Hours in 1966, the Ford Shelby GT40 MKII 50th Anniversary Le Mans Edition ($230,000) is clearly an outstanding vehicle, and it’s now available to buy. You’d better hurry though, as production is limited to just 20 units.
The result of a collaboration between Shelby American, Superformance, and Safir GT40, the MKII looks identical to the original, boasting muscular front fenders, a rounded nose, beefed-up haunches with the large cooling vents, the two scoops on the engine hood, the gold wheels, and even the Gurney bubble on top of the driver side door. Inside, although some details have been updated, the replica looks pretty authentic keeping the original style seats with silver rivets, as well as the right-hand drive & right-hand shift configuration of the iconic vehicle.
The GT40 also received modern racing parts, like the Bilstein shocks with H&R springs, 4-wheel vented disc brakes, and Wilwood calipers. As for the engine, the buyers will have to choose one to fit their need for power (Superformance recommends a specially prepared Shelby aluminum-block 427 FE V-8). In addition, all cars will have a numbered anniversary badge, and will arrive in 3 different color schemes, matching the original Le Mans winners.
