Italians do it better. Especially when it comes to art, fine design, sports cars, coffee machines, food – alright pretty much everything! It seems they are also talented at making 2-wheelers, and the proof is in this stunner: the BestiaNera Hybrid Bike ($10,900).
Besides the spooky price tag it carries, BestiaNera (‘Black Beast’ in Italian) has a frightening appearance, with its all-black paint & devilish dark red accents, not to mention the sleek shape and the horns at the end of the handlebars. This track-inspired mechanical/electrical bicycle is touted as the world’s lightest hybrid, weighing in at just 21.6 lb (9.8 kg), and that is mainly because of its monocoque carbon fiber frame, carbon tri-bladed front wheel, and carbon disc-covered rear wheel. A 30V/160-Wh lithium-ion battery pack (recharged by a KERS system when decelerating) and a brushless 250-watt hub motor – all housed in the back wheel – help the riders “reach 30 km/h (19 mph) in just three pedal strokes”, while a front SRAM hydraulic disc brake is there to stop the demon on a dime. Packed also with a Shape Memory Alloy Anti Vibration System that provides a comfy ride, the BestiaNera comes in three evil options: Light, Urban and Sport.
