From the nearby highway, this Concrete Bunker House in Switzerland looks like a modest, single-level storage shed. But once you open its rusty metal door, you’re brought into a radiant, inviting foyer, followed by 3 stories of minimalist design with cleverly manipulated light and a central atrium that appears to be taken from ancient Roman architecture.
Set on a steep location in Caviano, overlooking Lake Maggiore, the construction (designed for a family of three) was finished 2015, and it boasts a slim, tall silhouette that extends down the hillside, allowing its residents to enjoy the lush greenery below the level of the main road. Two of the home’s facades are totally closed, while the other two sides are fully glazed towards the courtyards, one facing the mountain and the other, the lake. The materials used include different types of concrete, glass, wood, metal & rough stone. A multitude of precisely placed windows and skylights create striking designs, while allowing optimum entry of light and sun.
