Ever since its birth 67 years ago, the emblematic Land Rover Defender has been “the epitome of toughness, of ruggedness, of strength and most importantly of capability.” Just like the Porsche 911, the Mini, the Beetle, or the Mustang, the Defender has become a major automotive icon, standing the test of time over and over again and gaining a horde of fans (including us) all over the world. Sadly, 2015 is set to be the end of the road for this fantastic automobile, and to celebrate it, Land Rover is releasing the Land Rover Defender Heritage Limited Edition ($43,000).
As a tribute to the Series I Land Rover, the Heritage edition wears a classic Grasmere Green exterior with an Alaska White roof, matching vintage steel wheels and a special grille. The HUE 166 badges placed on the seats and side of the car are a reference to the first pre-production Land Rover’s license plate (which ended up with the nickname “Huey”), and in the interior, we can admire Almond cloth seats and rubber floor mats for a fitting retro design.
The Defender Heritage Edition is fitted with an almighty Jaguar Land Rover’s 2.2 litre 4-pot turbo diesel, as well as the latest version of the ladder chassis, aluminum body, and aerodynamic styling. Only 2,654 of the Heritage edition will ever be produced and available in the Defender’s current markets (outside US, unfortunately), and they will most certainly sell out fast.
