It’s no wonder Carter Cutlery out of Portland, Oregon is considered an artisan knife company. Their founder, Murray Carter, spent 18 years living in Japan learning the ancient art of Yoshimoto blade-making. Such experience contributed, no doubt, to his recognition as a Mastersmith in the prestigious ‘American Bladesmith Society.

The latest five of his fixed-blade ‘neck’ knives have more than just their quality materials in common. Each of the blades has a carbon-steel core that has been overlain with 30 layers of alternating high tensile strength steel and pure nickel. While the blade lengths vary between 3.35″ through 3.75″, they all weigh just three ounces. The handles on this collection of full-tang knives are crafted from American Desert Ironwood, Snakewood, and synthetic G10. Because they are hand-crafted, no two of Carter Cutlery’s neck knives are exactly alike.
