Zenith is so serious about their aviation-style watches that the company had trademarked the word “Pilot” so only their watches could be designated as Pilots on the faceplate. Now they have added to their line the Zenith Heritage Pilot Extra Special Chronograph ($7,100), using bronze as case material.
The timepiece is somewhat large, clocking in at 45mm wide with a 14.25mm thickness, and comes with an oiled green nubuck leather strap with rubber lining. The face features extra large Super-LumiNova C1 Arabic numerals and wide, shaped gold-plate hands, while the back of the case is pure titanium decorated with the Zenith Flying Instruments logo. The domed sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating on both sides for extra visibility.
Inside there’s a variant of the 4069 El Primero movement running at 5Hz for about 50 hours per wind. To be expected from an action watch, this Pilot is water-resistant down to 300 feet. The Heritage Pilot Extra Special looks like it can hold its own even when things get down and dirty.
