If the wandering hours complication fascinates you, URWERK is our top pick. However, the models that feature it usually come with eye-watering prices. All hope is not lost, because there are some alternatives to consider, which also showcase the same timkeeping mechanism. Xeric Watches is currently accepting preorders for the new Triptych II in Ice Blue.
Upon checking, units are not due to ship out until January 2027. If only it would have launched earlier, the reference would have been one awesome holiday gift. Nonetheless, its striking design and cool colorways make the timepiece a wonderful addition to your existing accessory rotation.
Unlike the avant-garde aesthetic of URWERK’s catalog, the Ice Blue Triptych II arrives with a dress watch profile. The round stainless steel case measures 39 mm or 46 mm (including the lugs). A fixed bezel with a polished finish frames a guillochĂ© dial beneath a domed sapphire crystal.
The minute scale takes up the right half of the dial, while a Xeric Watches logo is visible at 9 o’clock. Three rotating discs with four Arabic numeral hour indicators each travel along the minute track. A sweeping seconds hand sweeps across the indices adjacent to the flange’s circumference.
Instead of developing a bespoke movement for the Triptych II in Ice Blue, the watchmaker is using a custom self-winding Miyota 9039 it calls Caliber X2.6. The automatic mechanism beats at a frequency of 4 Hz and touts a 42-hour power reserve. Each of the 500 examples ships with a two-tone American Horween leather strap and a deployant clasp.
