If you are a gin aficionado then you probably like nothing more than relaxing with a cool glass of gin in the evening. Here at Mens Gear we enjoy a glass of gin so we were incredibly excited when we got to road test the HomeMade Gin Kit not least because it meant an excuse to hold a mini party.
I personally like gin well enough; I started my gin drinking with a classic gin and tonic a few years back and have since worked myself up to being able to drink gin straight up with maybe a twist of lime and some ice. This made me a prime candidate to test The HomeMadeGin Kit and to tell if it actually manages to produce a quality gin.
First of all it is worth mentioning that the HomeMade Gin Kit is the only way to produce your own gin from home, short of using costly and illegal distilling equipment. This amazing kit makes it possible to produce your own gin with just the kit and an affordable bottle of vodka (not included).
Out of the box the HomeMade Gin Kit ($39.95) looks the part, with each component looking classy and expensive. The contents include a classic 500ml glass Italian liquor bottle, and a 250ml version, while each bottle comes with a swing top. Other contents include two spice tins, one filled with juniper berries and the other with a blend of botanicals, flowers, and spices, while the kit is finished with a funnel, mesh strainer, and of course the instructions.
Luckily the instructions are easy and you will not need any culinary experience to follow them. I completed the instructions fairly quickly and waited the required 36 hours for my gin to be complete. After the time I tasted my gin and I have to say it was the real deal, a high quality tasting gin that would not seem out of place on a shelf in a store. There is a lot of flavour and tones to this gin, while the aromas are complex and sweet.
