Yesterday shared a glimpse of the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 1 Low OG in a Black Phantom colorway. Images of the blackout kicks were leaked online and got sneakerheads fired up for its eventual drop this December 18. This time, Nike is back in the spotlight as it announces the Air Max 97 나이키 2002.
This pair seems to be another nod to an Asian country and year. The American sports apparel manufacturer unveiled the Air Trainer 1 “TYO 03” last week as a callout to Tokyo, Japan. The latest one, meanwhile, is a stylish tribute to South Korea.
Nike’s Air Max 97 나이키 2002, could be a way of honoring the country’s football team for reaching the semifinals at the FIFA World Cup. For now, it’s unclear how the brand picks the theme for these cool releases, but we’re not here to complain. For those wondering, the Korean alphabet (Hangul) in the name reads “Nike” phonetically.
The colorway is listed by some sources as Pure Platinum/White/Wolf Grey. The upper is primarily a synthetic mesh with stitched leather paneling that wraps around the contour of the Air Max 97 나이키 2002. The Wolf Grey sections are suede and form the mudguards and heel counter.
The mesh padded tongue features the white Swoosh logo amid a backdrop of light blue with a pull tab. The Nike emblem also appears on the mesh quarter on both sides. Inside the Air Max 97 나이키 2002 are sockliners in gray. Rounding out the aesthetics are the heel pull tabs with the text “2002” and “나이키” in light blue.
