TILT Lamp, by product and furniture designer Ed Heritage, explores how simple gestures can make familiar objects fun and interactive. It takes design inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of Ikigai, finding purpose and joy in life’s small moments. This portable rechargeable lamp lights up not with a switch or button, but through creative interaction.
Instead of reaching for a button, remote, or switch, tilt the lamp slightly instead to turn on the light. This movement powers the light on and off. This tactile interaction becomes a part of the object. It encourages motion and willingness to participate in one small act that brings ambient illumination into a space.
Visually, TILT Lamp comprises a glowing glass orb that balances perfectly on a dark wood block on one end. On its opposite end is a wooden knob that you hold to tilt the lamp. It features a clean, minimalist aesthetic, with the glowing orb looking like the moon.
This luminaire is crafted from solid FSC-Certified European ash, glass, and metal. It delivers a warm, diffused glow ideal for bedside tables, living areas, and shelving. It comes with a master switch that plugs into the wall to power the lamp. The integrated LED bulb delivers 72 lumens at a color temperature of 2700K.
TILT Lamp runs on a USB-C rechargeable battery that lasts up to ten hours on a single six-hour charge. It comes with its own USB-C cable and has an IP20 rating, making it ideal for indoor use only, specifically in dry areas. When not turned on, it makes a great visual arts display.
