Not long ago, there was a showdown between BVLGARI and Richard Mille for the world’s thinnest mechanical watch. However, at 1.75 mm thick, the RM UP-01 Ferrari is clearly the winner. With that finally over, we’re now getting another classy timepiece from the Italian luxury fashion house. This is the Octo Finissimo Sejima Limited Edition.
BVLGARI is going for a minimalist masterpiece as the aesthetics here are simple yet elegant. Press materials describe the watch as a “rare fusion of edgy Italian design and Swiss engineering through its extreme slenderness and uncompromisingly forward-thinking mechanics.”
It’s a solid option when you want something that’s not too flashy on the wrist. We have an octagonal case crafted out of stainless steel that measures 40 mm x 6.40 mm. This still makes the Octo Finissimo Sejima Limited Edition slim by comparison to most contemporary wrist-based timekeeping instruments.
Beating within is a remarkable 2.23 mm-thick BVL 138 automatic movement with a 60-hour power reserve. You can view some of its caliber’s components via the exhibition case back. The micro-rotor shows the BVLGARI engraving, while the crystal touts Sejima’s signature. The metal crown sports a black ceramic insert on top.
A round fixed bezel is mirror polished just like every other surface on the Octo Finissimo Sejima Limited Edition. Next, we have a dial beneath the sapphire crystal with metalized dots. There are no hour markers or indices to speak of which endows the Octo Finissimo Sejima Limited Edition with a clean aesthetic.
Users read the time via skeletonized dauphine hour and minutes hands. Meanwhile, a small seconds indicator is visible between 7 o’clock and 8 o’clock. The Octo Finissimo Sejima Limited Edition comes with a stainless steel bracelet that employs a three-blade folding clasp closure system.
