For years, tech industry pundits have been calling out Apple for its supposed lack of innovation. From an objective standpoint, it does seem to be the case. For instance, the company just released its first book-style foldable, the iPhone Duo. However, we did not expect another first that’s due to hit the market next month. This is the HomeView.
After testing the smart speaker waters with the HomePod and HomePod Mini, it’s now diving into the smart display segment. Users who prefer Apple’s hardware ecosystem finally have a smart display to add to their setup. As one of the top brands synonymous with outstanding industrial design, the HomeView does not disappoint.
There are two versions to choose from: tabletop or wall-mount. The latter is the space-saving option, while the former features a sleek aluminum domed base with a stainless steel hinge. Both are packing Apple’s A18 chipset. The primary interface here is a 7-inch Liquid Retina display with True Tone technology.
Depending on the ambient lighting or personal preference, owners can tweak the brightness all the way up to 500 nits and as low as 0.3 nits. For FaceTime, a front-facing 12-megapixel Center Stage camera with automatic tracking keeps people in frame. Voice commands are detected by four beamforming microphones to ensure Siri is always on standby.
Meanwhile, the freestanding HomeView touts more powerful speakers embedded within the base enclosure. If you’re getting the wall-mount SKU, it relies on two speakers incorporated into the housing. Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos are enough to deliver immersive acoustics.
Lastly, Space Gray, Starlight, Silver, and Rose Pink are the colorways for the standard HomeView. Those grabbing the wall-mount model, on the other hand, can only pick between Silver and Space Gray.
