Amidst the growing concern over reported issues with the iPhone Duo, Apple is announcing another first. We already expect brand loyalists to praise this as the best thing ever. However, it’s just playing catch-up to the competition. Nonetheless, if you’re already deep into the company’s product ecosystem, the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is an interesting addition to the lineup.
For years, macOS users have been asking Apple for a touchscreen MacBook. According to tech industry insiders and pundits, the reason why capacitive touch never made it to MacBooks until now was the iPad. Supposedly, the marketing team was worried it might affect tablet sales.
Some believe it’s a bid to draw attention away from the ongoing iPhone Duo Crackgate controversy. Anyway, ahead of the new hardware’s arrival next month, here’s what buyers of the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display can look forward to. The macOS laptop is available in two sizes: 14-inch (14.2″) and 16-inch (16.3″).
Depending on the configuration, the SKUs either ship with an M5 Pro or M5 Max chip. If your budget is flexible, the highest specs these can go are 128 GB RAM and 16 TB of NVMe SSD. As the press release tells us, the main selling point here is the vibrant touchscreen panel that can dial up the brightness as high as 2000 nits.
Meanwhile, the contrast ratio is listed at 10,000,000:1. ProMotion technology, on the other hand, enables adaptive refresh rates. Depending on the content shown, the system can drop it down to 10 Hz and boost it all the way up to 120 Hz. Next is the 12 MP Center Stage camera and Dynamic Island functionality. The MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display arrives on November 6, 2026.
