EXOD’s BASE-01 has nearly eight feet of headroom and room for up to ten people. We’d bring a smaller crowd and enjoy the space.
Camping gets a lot more appealing when putting on a jacket doesn’t require sitting on your sleeping bag. The EXOD BASE-01 takes that small luxury rather seriously: roughly 183 square feet of interior space, almost eight feet of headroom and a layout designed for up to ten people. All of it packs into a single carry bag.
The numbers are impressive, but we’d be inclined to ignore the maximum capacity. Bring a smaller group, leave room for your gear and let the campsite have something resembling a living room. Not every inch of floor needs a sleeping pad on it.
Bring the room, leave the poles
The BASE-01 uses an inflatable frame rather than conventional tent poles. High-strength polyester Dacron and TPU form its structural tubes, and EXOD says one person can handle setup. Anyone who has tried to coordinate several friends around a half-built tent will appreciate the ambition.
The brand has explored this idea before with the smaller POD-01 Air Station. The BASE-01 takes it into proper group-camp territory, with five- and ten-person inner-tent options for organizing the sleeping space.
There’s enough headroom here to change clothes without performing a seated wrestling match. More importantly, a smaller group could give over part of the interior to chairs, bags and the general debris of a few days outdoors. That sounds especially appealing on the sort of trip where everyone has brought a camera, an extra jacket and absolutely no intention of packing light.
Clear windows bring daylight into the shelter, while nylon mesh provides ventilation. EXOD specifies ripstop polyester walls and a removable nylon groundsheet, both with a 5,000mm waterproof rating. A wall organizer is included, giving smaller essentials somewhere to live other than the bottom of somebody’s bag. There are guy lines and a repair kit in the package, too.
A big tent with a manageable exit strategy
Packed away, the BASE-01 is listed at 44 pounds, with a carry bag measuring approximately 31.5 by 21.6 by 15.7 inches. You’ll want a vehicle nearby. Still, a bag you can load into the car is a reasonable trade for this much space once you arrive.
Finding room at the campsite is another matter. The deployed footprint is roughly 18 by 16 feet, larger than the usable interior, so this is one to measure out before booking a tight pitch. It makes more sense for a group settling into one spot for several days than a couple moving camp every morning.
The BASE-01 is open for preorder in Stealth Grey and Polar White at €2,990, against a planned €3,490 retail price. EXOD expects shipping in spring 2027 and currently advertises free worldwide delivery. Inner-tent choices are listed separately, so check the selected configuration before ordering.
It’s an expensive way to avoid crouching. But the real attraction is having somewhere to spend time together when the weather spoils the view. We’d take the extra elbow room over the satisfaction of squeezing in all ten friends.
