Watch enthusiasts have a reason to celebrate because URWERK just added a new reference to its catalog. The UR-300 Time Quantum is another elaborate timekeeping instrument that’s available in two versions: Titanium and Altin. If you like a lighter tone, pick the former, but our choice is the latter for its more understated profile.
“The UR-300 Time Quantum inverts the lens on our view of the URWERK universe. Instead of orbital satellites on a rotating carousel, two hour modules of linear construction are fixed perpendicularly, forming a T-frame.” The technical revamp is a distinctive shift from the Swiss watchmaker’s usual offerings, and a welcome one at that.
We believe the horological experts behind its previous outings just want to show off their expertise at this point. Telling the time on this timepiece is surprisingly intuitive after getting the hang of things. As usual, the three Arabic numeral hour markers are on a rotating prism with a pointer on each end. There are four of these in total, and in pairs of two.
Meanwhile, the minute scale is rendered in a 108-degree arc, where the indicator sweeps across. URWERK then treats owners to a visual treat, courtesy of the “quick-blink forward jump and complete reconfiguration of the hour display to signal the transition from one hour to the next.” Elsewhere, the running seconds are visible at the 3 o’clock side of the dial.
Each example arrives in a 45.2 mm x 58.8 mm x 18.25 mm grade 5 titanium case. The black variant touts DLC coating via a PE-CVD process. Sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatments cover both ends of the UR-300 Time Quantum. An in-house UR-30.01 automatic movement runs the show. The 40-jewel self-winding caliber beats at 4 Hz and boasts a 43-hour power reserve.
