Little do we know, but some of the world’s top whisky brands have already been in the business for several centuries. Those that reach these milestones are practically household names and will stay that way for years to come. The Glendronach counts as one, as 2026 marks its 200th anniversary. As a treat, it’s dropping the Boynsmill House Edition.
This expression is one of two in the collection. The Aged 56 Years is the oldest dram from the label to see a commercial release. As for the former, it’s a Highland single malt Scotch with a respectable 14-year age statement in tow. Each Boynsmill House Edition bottle holds 700 ml of rich copper liquid at an ABV of 46.8% or about 93.6 proof.
It “honours the legacy of hospitality established by James Allardice in 1826. Matured in exceptional Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, and complemented by a select few casks which have previously held claret wine, it reveals a luxurious depth of dark fruits, black cherry and gentle spice. An invitation to the house at the heart of our story.”
Alongside the Aged 56 Years, The Glendronach’s master blender Rachel Barrie curates the 200th anniversary edition lineup. According to her, “In this expression, I find the character that has long made the Glendronach so distinctive: plush ripe malt, Highland toffee, bramble, and raisin layered with subtle notes of stone fruit and plum, leading to a mellow, velvety finish.”
Until we’ve sampled it personally, we can only share the official tasting notes published by the distillery. Aromas of stone fruit, bramble, raisin, hazelnut, and Highland toffee greet you with every pour. A sip of the Boynsmill House Edition evokes flavors of ripe malt, chocolate caramel, dried fruits, and nuts.
