As we said before, URWERK is one of our favorite haute horlogerie brands. Not only does the Swiss watchmaking group supply the market with luxurious timekeeping instruments, but it also showcases some of the most fascinating complications. To please discerning clients who are after something a bit on the unconventional side, its sharing details about the UR-1001 AMADEUS.
It’s reportedly a one-off masterpiece under the Special Projects catalog. Although we don’t know who exactly commissioned this pocket watch, it’s safe to say the owner has exquisite taste. Previous variants include the UR-1001 TITAN and the UR-1001 ZEIT DEVICE.
These two noticeably flaunt a more modern aesthetic with a decorative concentric pattern visible on the cases. For the UR-1001 AMADEUS, URWERK presents a 106 mm x 62 mm x 23 mm titanium housing with intricate hand engravings by Florian Güllert. Additionally, some of the surfaces flaunt mixed finishes such as satin-brushed, matte, and dotted.
All in all, the housing itself becomes another visual spectacle on top of the already sophisticated mechanical elements. Elsewhere, the dial holds the satellite hour indicator, satellite month/date indicator, retrograde minutes, seconds indicator, day/night cycle indicator, and power reserve indicator.
Another cool feature is the hinged cover of the exhibition case back, which is an extra layer of protection over the sapphire crystal. By the way, the rear cutout offers a view of the running time indicators for 100 years and 1,000 years. Meanwhile, a 5-year oil-change auxiliary counter tells you when to have it serviced.
The UR-1001 AMADEUS runs on URWERK’s UR-10.01 self-winding movement. The 51-jewel caliber uses a single mainspring barrel for a power reserve of 39 hours. It includes a handmade, heat-blackened steel chain with a carabiner-style clasp.
