Another delightful dram is dropping your way next month courtesy of Four Roses. This is the distillery’s follow-up to the Mizunara Cask Finish, which was released a couple of months ago. After a short teaser, we now know what the Experimental Series No, 002 is all about. So far, the overall outlook is mostly positive thanks to how this expression was prepared.
The second entry is sure to appeal to drinkers who love to sip spirits with floral notes. We’re getting a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey finished in honey casks. These are not just any containers, either, as the wood is already infused by a concoction by the label as well.
Specifically, the previous liquid is the limited edition Bourbon Barrel Aged Honey. With this bold foundation, Four Roses blends its OBSK and QESQ recipes. These are between the ages of 6 and 8 years and are then stored in the aforementioned casks. After nine months, the liquid is bottled at 104 proof or about 52% ABV.
The slogan reads, “Finding the Sweet Spot.” True to its Experimental Series No. 002 namesake, it took some time before the team settled on the final formula. Therefore, this alcoholic beverage “offers a distinctive balance of natural honey sweetness, floral undertones, and warm spice for a uniquely rewarding twist on our signature profile,” reads the marketing page.
According to Four Roses master distiller Brent Elliot, drinkers should sample both the Bourbon /barrel Aged Honey and Experimental Series No. 002. This way, you can experience the nuances between the two to truly appreciate what makes the latest expression a worthwhile addition to your bar’s lineup.
