Vollebak has always been experimenting with technical apparel to create what it calls “clothes from the future.” The brand has released some of the unusual yet functional and stylish wear made from silver, aerogel, copper, and more. It continues to push the boundaries between creative design and material science. Its latest release, the FWAHBL, arrives with a product brief that borders on theatrical and science fiction.
Short for “For When All Hell Breaks Loose,” it turns chemical-suit material into a trench coat. It comes in a hazard-yellow colorway with a material engineered for use across industrial applications. It’s resistant to chemicals, oils, flame, ozone, and severe weather. Its material is a double-faced polychloroprene rubber produced by Fothergill, a British technical-textile manufacturer with a history dating back to 1847. The company has supplied the British military since the Boer War.
The FWAHBL jacket isn’t your ordinary everyday wear, considering its textile technology. Its material composition comprises 82% polychloroprene rubber coating on both sides, 18% polyester core, and, as Vollebak says, it’s 100% hell-proof. Likewise, it’s not certified personal protective equipment despite its material offering chemical protection.
Rather, it leans more toward entertainment, as its product brief even comes with an elaborate fictional universe. The product arrives in retro video-game-inspired packaging, comic-book storytelling, and a cinematic trailer. Vollebak even has a playable game in development specifically to introduce this limited-edition piece (only 10 samples worldwide).
Completing the FWAHBL jacket are raglan sleeves for ease of mobility, a two-piece collar, and two zipped hand pockets. It features a concealed center-front fastening with hidden mini snaps, all seams bound internally, and a single back vent.
