The Porsche 911 is arguably the most iconic car in history, a sports icon that has been with us for 50 years and counting. The 911 is famed for going through very little design changes throughout its life, if you recognize a 911 from the 1970s you will recognize one of the current models. So when Porsche received 5 million Facebook fans the company did something radical, it gave the fans the chance to design their own 911. I think you agree this was a big move for a company that hardly touches its own designs.
Nevertheless Porsche did (although we suspect with a myriad of limitations) and the result is the Facebook 911, a car that is faithful to the current range and design. Instantly you will see the Facebook influence in the blue paint work and white wheels, while just in case you needed reminding, the side decal reads “5M FACEBOOK FANS”.
Under the hood the Facebook 911 sports 430 horsepower 3.8 liter engine, which we’re sure was plenty to send one lucky fan around British track Silverstone. Unfortunately no one else will get to do that as the car will not be going on sale. Sigh.
