Despite the growing popularity of electric vehicles, the market for conventional models still remains strong. However, for those who want to slowly shift over to EVs, but do not want to fully commit right away, there’s always the hybrid configuration. The 2019 Ram 1500 eTorque is a pickup truck that embraces the technology that’s ready for some serious efficiency.
Ram is not the only manufacturer that paired the tech to its vehicles. We’ve seen entries such as the GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, and the Chrysler Aspen. The fifth-generation truck comes in various trims and customization selections that reach all the way to upmarket standards. The innovative hybrid system will reportedly help the engine conserve fuel during idle moments at a stoplight or more.
During a standstill, the electric motor system automatically takes over and continues to run the engine. When it’s time to go, it then supplies the additional torque to push the 1500 forward as it smoothly transitions back from electricity to gas. This supposedly makes for a more refined driving experience overall. As far as options go, the e-Torque system can be paired to either a 397-horsepower 5.7-liter Hemi V8 or a 305-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6.
Automotive experts won’t really go as far as calling the 2019 Ram 1500 eTorque a true hybrid. Instead, you can probably consider it a something just a notch lower than the default classification.
