ASUS just unveiled its brand-new Chromebook C423 out of nowhere. As you can imagine, this release came out of the blue without any foreshadowing from ASUS whatsoever. Granted, the company doesn’t really make a big deal out of its new Chromebook releases, but this one really flew under the radar.
And perhaps for good reason — this is basically a repackaged Acer Chromebook 15. One look at the processor options and ports and you’ll realize this looks to be competing directly with Acer. You can pick between the Intel Celeron Dual-Core N3350 Processor or Pentium Quad-Core N4200 Processor and pair it with either 4 or 8 GB of RAM. The laptop sports a 14-inch anti-glare display — resolution varies; 366 x 786 if you pick up the non-touch version, 1,920 × 1,080 if you get the one with the touchscreen display.
The whole nine yards are here as well, like an SD card slot, an HD front-facing camera, Bluetooth 4.0, and integrated 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (2×2). As for the ports, we’re looking at a single combo headphone jack, two USB Type-A 3.1 slots, and two USB Type-C 3.0 ports with display and power delivery support.
Those aren’t anywhere near powerhouse specs overall, but that’s just par for the course as a typical Chromebook user doesn’t really need that much high-end specs. That being said, the ASUS Chromebook C423 is looking to be a solid performer still, especially if you opt for the Pentium variant. If you’re looking for a computer that’ll let you write emails, send documents, browse the web, and do other medium-duty stuff, this one’s for you.
