Gillette has collaborated with 3D printing company Formlabs to enhance the grooming experience even further. The result of that partnership, called the Gillette Razor Maker, is a blade with a personalized handle design system.
This new platform enables customers to customize their own handle, which in turn gives their razor flair and personality. Thanks to Formlabs, Gillette can 3D print your customized razor blade handle using stereolithography printing technology. All you have to do is provide a vision of what you want your handle to be.
If you have a design in mind, head over to the Gillette Razor Maker website and choose from a variety of ornate designs. After that, you’ll have the option to choose between seven colors. If so you wish, you can even add some custom text to the overall design. Then, you can insert images and graphics either from the Razor Maker website’s own collection or from your own.
While the handles are custom-made, they’re still able to accomodate MACH3 or Fusion5 ProGlide razor cartridges. This should give you utmost flexibility when you want to switch options. We have to give credit to Gillette here. Turning the razor from a bathroom essential to a much more personal item is a clever way to get people to participate, and it’s even more impressive when you consider that razors aren’t usually associated with personalized aesthetics.
Through this project, Gillette and Formlabs are able to maintain utilitarian excellence of Gillette’s razor blades while introducing a new schtick that enables customers to have an integral role in the creative process.
