One of Porsche Design’s most innovative wristwatches is the MONOBLOC Actuator GMT-Chronograph. Inspired by the company’s distinctive 911 RSR racing engine, this tough-as-nails timepiece might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it is surely unique and bound to make a statement no matter the occasion.
Inside the hefty 45.5mm case, water resistant to a full 300 feet (100 meters), resides a powerful self-winding chronograph caliber ETA Valjoux 7754 movement with a two-timezone mechanism and a 48-hour power reserve. The bicompax dial features a 30-minute chronograph counter at 12 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, function indicator at 9 o’clock, and the date at 4:30. There is an inscribed 24-hour scale around the bezel and an outer edge tachometer. The stopwatch function is unique with the normal push-piece replaced by an automobile engine-inspired single rocker switch which allows quicker, more precise readings and incidentally increases its durability over the lifetime of the watch.
A solid chronograph that will clearly appeal to those who appreciate fine engineering and innovation, the titanium MONOBLOC Actuator is as performance oriented as the racing engine it was modeled after.
