A big problem with most hiking boots is that they are heavy, bulky, and not really stylish if you are not on the trail. Ridgemont Outfitters has changed that sad state of affairs with their Outback II Boot ($135).
Easily the most versatile hiking boot Ridgemont has developed, the Outback II is made of 2mm thick waxed full grain leather and waxed cotton canvas. The outersole is 100% hi-density Vulcanized rubber with a lugged sole. The Outback II features a lockstitch side seam for an extra secure outsole bond which makes it capable of standing up to all but the most extreme of conditions. Inside, your feet are comforted with a BiFit composite lasting board for improved flex and a removable EVA-Crush Open Cell Anti-Microbial Insole.
The Ridgemont Outback II hiking boot comes in sizes down to US5 for smaller hikers and is available in four colorways: Black/Burgundy, Black/Gray, Brown/Olive, and Auburn/Red. While the Outback definitely has a hiking boot silhouette, it is still streamlined enough to fit in well with an urban surrounding after the hike is done.
