Despite the G-Shock line of watches from Casio being considered mainstream, there are some luxury versions that distinguish themselves with titanium cases and sapphire crystals. The newest model, the Casio G-Shock MT-G MTGS1000D-1A9 ($900) in stainless steel also maintains that lofty position in the line.
This new timepiece is being crafted in their Yamagata factory in Northern Japan, a sure sign of the watch’s class as the more mundane MT-G’s are produced in China, Malaysia, and Thailand. The silver stainless steel case blends well with the dark resin dial with its gold front screws, partial hands, and the hour indices.
Being a G-Shock it is expected to be able to withstand excesses in vibration, shock, or centrifugal force. It has a world time function, daily alarm, perpetual calendar, and countdown timer. The new MT-G also sports Multi-Band 6 tech, meaning it can pick up the radio transmissions from 6 atomic timekeeping devices so the watch is always synced to the most accurate time reading available.
