It took Audi two years before they released their R8 Spyder V10 coupe in a convertible model but the wait was worth it. With a horsepower increase from 540 to 610, the Audi R8 Spyder V10 Plus ($232,500) can hit the zero to 60 mph mark in just 3.3 seconds, making it the fastest open-air production car ever from Audi.
As with the standard R8 models, the V10 Plus utilizes a seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive. The 5.2-liter engine revs out to 8,700 rpm for a top speed of 203.8 mph, much faster than you might want to go with the top down. The cloth top does fold into a flat storage compartment over the engine via an electrohydraulic drive that takes 20 seconds and can work at speeds up to 31 mph.
Among the performance enhancing features is the carbon fiber diffuser adding 220 lbs of downforce along with a rear differential locker and electromechanical steering box. Helping with weight reduction are features as the light alloy wheels, carbon ceramic brakes, and bucket seats.
Inside, the lucky driver is spoiled by a Nappa leather bucket seat, a leather multifunctional steering wheel, an MMI navigation/infotainment system, and microphones built into the seat belts. The R8 Spyder V10 can also be fitted with a plethora of options, including a new “micrommata green” paint, laser light LED headlights, Bang & Olufsen speakers, and various finishes.
