Inspired by their love of the legendary Porsche 911, REC Watches has created a significant entry to their line of luxury timepieces with the 901 Collection ($995). They have not only designed this watch to emulate classic features of the sportscar, but have gone further and carefully handcrafted the dials from the bodywork of wrecked and unsalvageable 911 Porsche automobiles. Just like they did a while ago with used parts of old Ford Mustangs.
From the rear air grill design on the strap attachment framework, through the function dials that look like the 911’s dashboard, to the seconds indices written in the Porsche font, to the see-through caseback made like the Otto Fuchs rims – complete with the rotor made like the drilled disc brakes, and even the VIN plate cutaway which matches the VIN of the specific Porsche 911 used in the making of each individual watch, the REC 901 Collection honors the vehicle that inspired it. The engine for the 901 is an order-only Miyota 9100 automatic movement to ensure your watch runs as well as the automobile whose body was used in its construction.
