Under Armour’s second release of a 3-D printed athletic shoe is the aptly called ArchiTech Futurist Sneaker ($300). As the first iteration, the Futurist uses 3-D printing technology to create the “dynamic lattice network” in the sole, said to provide extreme cushioning and support.
Also adding to the stability of this minimalist shoe is the use of Under Armour’s ‘SpeedForm’ material for the uppers. This stuff provides a second skin effect as it molds itself to the contours of your foot. Adding to the strength & support, the shoe has an external compression sleeve for even better hold. There is also a center-placed zipper for a tailored fit and seamless aesthetic.
The ‘heel stability solution’ used on these kicks makes them steady and secure enough for strength training but also provides enough versatility for whatever use you put it to. 3-D printed sneakers have yet to be used in full production lines, so the Futurist, like the original ArchiTech, will only be available on a limited basis. Those who are lucky enough to acquire and wear them will be wearing what looks like the shape of the future for athletic sneakers. Drops March 30.
