2017 marks the 50th Anniversary of Mercedes’-AMG and the Stuttgart-based company is pulling out the stops for a very special Coupe. Admittedly, they are making refinements in some of their other high performance vehicles, but the GT C is being developed as both a Roadster and a Coupe.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT C Edition 50 ($TBA) packs a 4.0 liter V-8 biturbo engine that produces 557 hp and can reach 0-60 mph in a cool 3.7 seconds, topping 197 mph. The sports car also features the AIRPANEL active air management system that moves air to different parts of the machine as cooling is needed. Up front, the 15-bar grille shows the kinship with the GT3 race car, as well as the airfoil in the back that actively deploys or retracts as the speed fluctuates.
With many chassis and suspension parts being constructed of forged aluminum, the AMG GT C is lighter so the rear axle steering can work with the front wheels at speed for nearly driftless performance. As expected, these Special Edition vehicles are decked out with unique colors (graphite grey or cashmere white) and luxurious trim.
